#GenAI's
Again, if GenAI’s purpose is NOT primarily deception, watermarking wouldn’t be an issue.

The entire enterprise is built on the premise of deceiving, lying, and fraud.
Gotta admit I'm getting a lot of schadenfreude from the freakouts about Claude's watermarks and the horrifying idea you might actually have to do your own work to get credit for the work.

Carney has the traits of someone at risk of running afoul of genAI’s sycophantic, error-prone tendencies: a high, even hubristic self-regard for his own intelligence; an expert in a narrow domain working in a position demanding generalist knowledge. The lack of critical AI analysis here is worrying.

I continue to be convinced that the only thing that can curb genAI's intrusion into all areas of our lives is legislation and regulation of the AI companies.

So I've given this response a lot of thought and I'm

Mixed? I think?

Is a filter and enforcing it needed? Yes, as GenAI's use on ALL UGC-based platforms becomes more egregious and it's getting harder for those who aren't easily able to discern material...

Before AI, automated features like autocomplete and predictive text were studied and it was proven that they do erode people's foundational skills. I mean, people can't spell simple words nowadays. There's a term for it, cognitive offloading.

GenAI's damage goes to infinity and beyond!

Alt: Buzz and Woody in the gliding scene near the end of the movie, "Toy Story". Woody says, "To infinity and beyond!".

Forget the "killer robots" human-extinction scenario.

genAI's real danger is in the slow, quiet, grinding harms that will impact us over the longer term.

Erosion of entry-level roles is a prime example:
It is time to recognise that the AI problem we feared is not the problem we’ve got. Folk memories of furious Luddites cast out of their jobs by machines have led us astray. In fact, the primary margin of adjustment in the AI age appears to be entry, rather than exit. www.ft.com/content/cf6f...
The AI problem we feared is not the AI problem we got
Lay-offs are low by historical standards but young people may still need help finding a foothold in the labour market

more evidence in the "deceit engine" category, because if it doesn't matter that you're only taking credit for genai's product, why would it matter if people knew that?
Gotta admit I'm getting a lot of schadenfreude from the freakouts about Claude's watermarks and the horrifying idea you might actually have to do your own work to get credit for the work.

"This is often popularly known as Generative AI. The “generative” part is apt in the sense that it makes shit up. It’s not so apt when you consider that all it can do is remix things that were fed into it — other people’s writings, drawings, music, or if we’re deeply unlucky, another GenAI’s slop."
NEW WRITING!

I had just a few things to get off my chest about physicists and others collaborating with technofascists …

“Why am I so convinced that companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are a danger to us? Because, to paraphrase a David Cross joke, that’s what they fucking said.” 🧪⚛️🔭
Would you invite a see-through Trojan horse into your home?
I wouldn't! And that's why I don't use technofascist AI.

The Gemini API reroutes gemini-2.5-pro to 3.8 Flash and gemini-2.5-flash to 3.5 Flash-Lite on December 1. Go tool loops using go-genai's helper send no id, which Google says can return empty replies.
The Gemini 2.5 deprecation reroutes your requests on December 1
The Gemini 2.5 deprecation moves gemini-2.5-pro and gemini-2.5-flash to other models on December 1. The new defaults and prices, plus a go-genai tool loop fix.

Anthropic's claim about eating so much white-collar work doesn't match genAI's present-day reality.

As I wrote in September newsletter.complex-machinery.com/archive/071-...

and in June newsletter.complex-machinery.com/archive/064-...
Anthropic considers its addressable market every white collar job in the world. It’s going to be an interesting world if companies keep laying people off to replace them with Claude subscriptions.

It’s not just a question of who buys your product if no one has a job but also who pays taxes?

I don't blame people for backing out of public websites and go with the information on closed spaces as Discord, this whole distrust situation is also GenAI's fault.

like i guess to GenAI's credit if anything it has made me really hone in on what i appreciate about art. The Craft Is The Point to me and not in like some catholic ass virtue of labor way but just that all the little personal decisions that go into Making Something are what give it definition to me

It's my birthday today!! 🥳🎂🎉

As a present, could you draw me a silly little drawing? It doesn't matter how bad you think it is, b/c even at your worst, you're still better than genAI's best 🥰

I'll start! (I made this at sketch.io/sketchpad/ )

what happens when we promote genai's downfall? do i get a cool sticker?
October 23, 2026 at 5:42 AM
As bad as things are, i'm still 100% confident GenAI's use in game development will not last.

It fundamentally, relies on patterns to create it's output. It's going to look for design trends, commonalities, and formulas it can stitch together.

That approach is gonna run out of gas real fast.

I absolutely do not want genAI's opinions of my gay fanart. :/
October 23, 2026 at 4:38 AM
played a bunch of games for next fest and compiled a collection of ones I recommend highly, the vibes are there for all of these games and no genAI's involved as far as I could tell :)

the big faves/must buys are def Hark the Ghoul, Guns n Goblins, Generic Fighter Maybe, and Beastfolk Barber tho
October 25, 2026 at 12:43 AM
this is part of what i mean when i say you need a holistic view of genAI's effect on the FOSS ecosystem. the argument that genAI output might be harmless in "individual cases" is, i think, missing the bigger picture - myriad individual cases come together to form the actual problem
This piece from @papapishu.bsky.social is so good. A survey of the desolation

Even if it made a few good games, one of them was Fortnite, which has trained an entire generation of children to be:
- loyal to scummy youtubers
- not care about genAI's effects on art and the planet

i know anything could have done that but im still getting the gun
October 23, 2026 at 6:54 PM
A Pythonesque paradox: GenAI's value proposition - generate any multimedia with a prompt - is what makes the thing it is generating completely worthless.
Spotify has removed 50 million AI slop tracks from users’ recommendations

• The tracks remain available but users must actively seek them out

• This follows more than 75M AI-generated tracks being flagged as spam and removed from the platform entirely
October 22, 2026 at 4:21 PM
Even if we ignore the legal and moral implications of genAI's current applications, it's proving to be much worse environmentally and financially than previous grifts. GPUs and other computer parts are ballooning in prices and power consumption is at all time highs. All just to generate porn!
October 23, 2026 at 7:56 AM
In addition to being WAY more honest than I think they meant to be, this ad also serves as a further proof that genAI's claim of "democratization" is a lie meant to coddle the fragile egos of "idea guys" who can't admit that they're not Genius Visionary Auteurs.
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:
