What Is Ghostlighting in a Relationship: The New Dating Trend That Combines Ghosting and Gaslighting Into One Perfect Cruelty
You have been ghosted before. You know what that feels like — the silence that arrives without warning, the unanswered messages, the slow horrifying realization that someone who was present has simply decided to become absent without the courtesy of an explanation. It hurts. It is dismissive and cowardly and it leaves you with nothing to hold onto except the absence itself.

Who are these people hanging out on dating apps just to ghost? We’ve now evolved into ghostlighting: agreeing to a date, then acting like it never happened. “You seemed busy.” “Let’s reschedule.” Then they vanish from that one too. Sir, this is emotional improv.

Actually, I think she knows better, but just can’t handle it. The bullshitting and ghostlighting are so audacious and baffling and astonishing. If I were in her shoes, the best I’d be able to do is stare, wide-eyed, and go “Wha?”

But even that would be better than what she actually did.

Ghostlighting: ghosting someone, then acting like the whole thing never happened. Not just disappearing. Active erasure. You're left wondering if you imagined it all. You didn't.

Read about this new term called ghostlighting and I was taken aback at how much it sounded like me when I was on dating apps.

Ghosting in dating is when someone simply vanishes. Poof. No texts, no calls, no "I'm not feeling it" courtesy. Cambridge Dictionary calls it abruptly ending contact, leaving you staring at your phone, replaying every moment. It is a passive-aggressive way of abandoning someone.
