My now-sophomore had a run-in with GoGuardian when he was Zoom schooling during early covid (fifth grade), so he started doing his schoolwork on our iMac rather than his Chromebook under the guise of "it has a better keyboard and monitor." (The school gave out Chromebooks but did not require them.)

They've pushing stuff like this on teachers for a decade with GoGuardian, and it is a huge invasion of student privacy.
Surely more technology will solve the problems caused by more technology, say the technology sellers.

Feeling vindicated for my general refusal to use GoGuardian at work.
I predict a new cottage legal industry where a cadre of lawyers work exclusively to get awards from dumb school districts and police services that employ GoGuardian Beacon. Sort of like lawyers suing over mesothelioma victims exposure w/o the death.

Students said “they believe the monitoring software has created a sense of fear among students who worry looking something up online can get them into trouble at school, and even if their school district means well, the constant digital surveillance creates more stress, not less.”

I was one of a handful of teachers at my school that refused to ever use goguardian in my classroom, and I’m feeling pretty vindicated right now
I'm pretty sure i was doing the same thing back when i was in middle school 😂 not because of laws it was just for the love of the game (and hate for goguardian)

Welp, yet another thing I will warn my admin about, only to be told I'm "politicking" & for them to ignore me. I've always hated GoGuardian in general, but this is ridiculous even for that program.
Because these kids may not know how to keep themselves safe and healthy, but they sure do know how to get around goguardian.

as far as I know, someone has to manually close a tab when goguardian is on. I pin goguardian so I can see the moment the icon turns blue and close any tabs myself.
