I just got this vintage Godaikin ad circa 1985 in the mail today. More material for my Voltron zine! I figured Godaikin ended around the same time as Voltron started, but apparently not. Bandai was still selling poor Daltanious in the US even though he didn't end up in Voltron. #mecha #anime

190) Godaikin Dynaman. When I was in my teens, Godaikin toys were a sort of high-end, unattainable dream, so seeing one in Pete's downsizing boxes fried my brain for a moment. This is one of the mod-sized ones, and as far as I can tell he's complete and in remarkably good shape. And just fantastic.

They knew what they were doing. lol if the show wasn't canceled, we would have had a Bandai hat trick of related robots here. With their Godaikin God Marz, Tonka's Gobots (Machine Robo), and the canceled Mattel Mighty Orbots. 2/3 aint bad.

It was released in the west under the Godaikin super robot line, with some stock being branded as #RoboMachine.
Vavilos is an extreme 80s space ship that converts into a giant robot. It also converts into a firing gun, which I assume is something to do with a final attack from the show.

Something I remember from the early days of the internet was seeing the Godaikin release of God Mars and thinking its main weapon was called the "sex god sword" on the package.

For a minute in the States, really about a year before the big robot explosion of Gobots and Transformers, Bandai tried to bring some of their successful robot toys from Japan under the GODAIKIN line, and if I were a year or two younger, I would have never stopped asking my parents for them

The 50th anniversary of D&D is great and all and should be celebrated for all it’s worth but it was 40 years ago this holiday that Godaikin debuted at my local toy store. Lest we forget. 🫡
