#GoldenGrove
I do weep for their lost innocence. Goldengrove unleaving, and so forth.
People are going to learn a lot about Groypers, Pepe the Frog, Furries, Helldivers 2, 4Chan and a bunch more this weekend.

And they will be absolutely terrified.

I wrote about Patrick McCabe's new novel Goldengrove and somehow ended up describing Pat as Ireland's answer to a very famous kaiju:

I'm very pleased and not a little relieved that this fine book is published today by @unboundsocials.bsky.social . It's GOLDENGROVE the fourteenth novel by the great Patrick McCabe.

Good morning, Baltimore.

Márgarét, áre you gríeving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
. . . .
It ís the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.

Margaret, are you grieving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leaves like the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
my most old fashioned and conservative view is students should be made to memorize poetry by rote at least once a year

Hell I'll take any excuse to share my favorite Gerard Manley Hopkins poem and one I have had memorized for 30 years and say to myself in bed when I'm awake at night.

I was surprised to see an email confirming shipment of Patrick McCabe’s GOLDENGROVE last week given Unbound/Boundless’s financial issues. And that was before the royalties email brouhaha. But here it is.

I originally planned for Goldengrove to just be a standard, boring inland town. But after thinking about the actual geography and trade routes, it turned into a lucrative and influential wine producing town.
