“When I delivered a tough budget in 2014 and populists everywhere shouted it down and undermined it … government expenditure was less, government tax was less and the public service was 50,000 people smaller than it is today,” he said.

simon said that for the first time, his office has had to plan for our federal government interfering with an election. “sadly, bigotry has been normalized and our democracy is at risk.”

If we can at least stop the bleeding, then maybe we can look forward to 2028, where we can elect a government with real leadership. MAGA has traumatised my soul.

Haven’t been paying much attention for the past couple years. GOP must have made good use of unified government right? Everything pretty much A-OK?

Great take, unless you also think we should raise minimum wage and end forever wars.

Inflation is a regressive tax on the poor and a boon to asset holders.

It lets politicians rob our futures and our children.

Money shouldn't be controlled by the government.

And I remember America’s CIA sabotaging Iran’s democracy in 1953, and installing a dictator. Over oil buddy. So how did that work out? Our government causes its own problems for the benefit of a few well connected creeps on the taxpayers nickel btw.

A country/government that tries to hide or is afraid to teach or let its citizens learn about all aspects of the country's history (both good & bad) is obviously scared & deeply ashamed of it's history.
A truly democratic country/government should be open & truthful about it's history (good & bad).

"Populism" is all well and good but you also need to have a functioning goddamned government for society to work
