i'm not super thrilled about bethesda buying doom, a GPL game, and then just abandoning the GPL on further releases. releases which are now windows-only. when every doom port under the sun derives from a project called 'linuxdoom'

the GPL is not limiting you. valve is limiting you. they won't give you their source code at all
the GPL doesn't mean "hey guys here's some free utility code i wrote". the GPL means "i believe everyone should share their work, and you can use mine as long as you believe in that too"

This mini rant is my biggest gripe with GPL, and I have spoken a few times in many circles everything I find wrong with it, but the limited use is the big one.

The consequences of the recent GEMA vs. OpenAI decision will be very interesting for "coding agents" and the sources they vomit out. Cause a lot of the code their developers accumulated is GPL-licensed.
