Btw, not a criticism.
Just an observation.

Better aesthetics without increasing attack surface would be great.

Hopefully this doesn't open up any vulnerability to extraction tools like GrayKey.

🚨NEW🚨 In 2024, Apple launched a feature that rebooted an iPhone locked for 72 hours, making them much harder for cops to search.

Now, court/contract records and data obtained via FOIA show cops across America using a tool to break that protection.

ICE is now a user.

ICE agents and cops across America are using a product called Graykey Preserve, which halts an Apple timer that makes it much harder to search an iPhone after 72 hours.

If that leaked Graykey video is from 2025 it is very likely this has already been patched in iOS 27 and in security updates to iOS for older devices.
This may be a USB fuzzer that simply freezes the device while connected so the reboot timer stops.
I doubt they preserve AFU state after a reboot.

Apple's Inactivity Reboot feature made it harder for cops to break into locked iPhones after 72 hours of inactivity. @lorenzofb.bsky.social obtained a video that shows how a new tool offered by GrayKey can crack that. @josephcox.bsky.social has more.
