#GreatGrandparent
Saying “It’s just stuff”. is shockingly insensitive- That lone picture of a greatgrandparent. A hard won diploma. That baby sippycup that’s ALWAYS in the kitchen drawer, even though he’s 34 & never calls. A record collection your uncle left to you.
The appliances can be replaced. #I♥️LA.

rationale for firstborn:
1) lovely name
2) greatgrandparent
3) nickname he was called while bump
4) dad's surname
5) my surname

HE CAN PICK AND CHOOSE (actually he uses first and last but, you know, OPTIONS). Look, we make these decisions while still mad with hormones and cannot be held responsible

One of the most amazing things I have seen while working on mini genealogy projects is when someone is really fascinated by another country and it's not*** from watching shows or trends or appropriation. Then we find out they had a previously unknown 3x or 2x greatgrandparent from there

Ask them to do their family tree at greatgrandparent to ggg level and see how many young people died of TB, babies of whooping cough, men regularly dying before age 50, children developing diabetes & sight loss from measles complications etc.

Understand life without vaccines.

I'm feeling increasingly saddened for our planet and our future generations as a greatgrandparent I worry greatly for their futures and considering my great grand children are in their teens, I may even be around for their children. All I can do at this stage is fight like hell for a better outcome.

If you have a grandparent from Ireland you can become a citizen. Also a greatgrandparent works but it it tougher/longer process

It's really hard, I lost my Nana & Grandad early so they never met either of my babies but it makes me sad my youngest will only ever know 1 greatgrandparent from my side. But then I only ever knew 1 at all from either side so she's blessed to have 3 in the running at all is how I'm trying to see it

I think I'm about 80% English by that criterion, with most of the rest being Scottish. And even then, dad likes to emphasise the fact he had a Swedish greatgrandparent because identify is about how you relate yourself to your world.

Spouse’s greatgrandparent came over from Poland/lithuania with three siblings. Two moved to greater Boston and told their descendants they were polish. Two moved to nyc and told their descendants they were Lithuanian. Alas, spouse is from the polish side so I have no in here.

Two people explicitly did, in fact. I would even post the receipts but they blocked me. I'm not surprised you might have issues finding it because of how much this blew up.

My greatgrandparent is a historical example of oppression wrought by the USSR.

I did very barebones worldbuilding of a merfolk princedom, but filled with former humans seeking comparative advantage for their pearl-hunting economy.

Should there be chud merfolk complaining about humans abandoning legs to move in (ofc the merchuds have human greatgrandparent or sth in lineage).

The thing about Israel/Palestine demographics is that if you rewound everything to, say, 1900, you’d be surprised how many current-day Israelis would have at least one grandparent/greatgrandparent living within the boundaries of present-day I/P, and how many Palestinians would have one who wasn’t

Hungary also does that -- if you have a greatgrandparent who was born in Hungary, you can be eligible for citizenship by passing a conversational Hungarian test.

A (kind) rejection AND a (delightful) acceptance this morning. Acceptance from @rawlitmag for a micro born in a @sfreligh workshop and loosely inspired by greatgrandparent lore. And here’s some silliness from the new erasure book…

everyone's parent or grandparent or greatgrandparent is an immigrant. people for whom that is not the case are the very rare exception!
