About a million years ago, an ancient lake once covered this entire region

After draining due to volcanic activity by the #RioGrande, these wetlands and flat-basin floors remained, while wind and sediment from the #SangredeCristo formed the dunes of the nearby #GreatSandDunesNP

Elsewhere on our trip we stopped at #GreatSandDunesNP. What an interesting landscape. All the sand from the desert to the west makes it to the mountains and piles up. This was an extremely hot day. We brought a sled, went up the smallest dune, let the kids slide once then booked it. #NationalParks

Last week we visited #BlackCanyonNP (got in two days before the wildfire), #MesaVerdeNP, and #GreatSandDunesNP. Our state is simply breathtaking.

Great Sand Dunes National Park, September2021. Walking up the #dunes was the most physically challenging #hike I’ve ever done. #Sledding back down was a blast. There also were a lot of animal tracks in the dunes. Bedbug story in animal tracks pic alt-text.

After hiking and sledding all day, we a found a bedbug in our bed in our hotel in Alamosa, CO. We packed up to immediately leave. The manager would not refund us for the night that we wouldn’t be there so I told him that I would let the other guests know what I had found. He said it would be libel because my wife and I may have brought the critter in with us. So, I just told other guests that we found it in the bed but we don’t know how it got there. No lies, no libel.
