Listening to the Double Concerto for Violin & Cello by Frederick Delius. It was written after Delius heard Brahms’s Double Concerto, but this is 100% Delius, 0% Brahms. Lovely, but not especially dynamic.

The bridge in Grez-sur-Loing has been painted so many times. I liked the play of sunlight under one of its arches.

55-210mm sounds like fun.

Today, we went to Grez-sur-Loing where there was an artists' open day. It has attracted artists since the 19th century. It has a 12 c. church, a famous bridge, and 12th c. castle. (will post pics!)

Tomorrow, we're going to Paris for the "Cezanne et nous" exhibition.

The vegetable patch is bathed in sunlight. Carl Larsson’s portrayal of light is so realistic that we almost share the girl’s experience of being blinded by it. There is not much shade in this picture. That is because the sun is high in the sky, but the artist has probably also chosen to leave it out to maximize the effect of strong sunlight. The painting was made in the international artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing south of Paris, where Larsson developed his watercolour technique in 1883–1884, in lighting conditions that were different from Sweden.

Son enquête avait permis à Gerri de découvrir où son père était mort en 1944. Deux ans plus tard, Christophe Ligère a été accueilli en héros par sa famille américaine.

A train rushes through the peaceful countryside. This picture is emblematic of the 19th century as a revolutionary era on the threshold between the old and the new. The railroad connected town and country, opening up new perspectives and opportunities. Urban tourists visited the countryside in search of the paroquial and the antiquated. Karl Nordström was one of the Swedish painters who travelled by train to the artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing.

'The Haunted Chateau Of Grez-sur-Loing' by #Scottish artist David Gauld. Over the years this picturesque village in northern #France attracted a bewildering number of artists. There seems no certain ghost story about the chateau - I think it just looked haunted!

The Canadian painter William Blair Bruce came to be a part of the Swedish art scene. In the Scandinavian artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing outside Paris, he met the Swedish sculptor and graphic artist Carolina Benedicks in 1885. They married and eventually settled on Gotland. Open-air Studio was painted in Grez and the woman in the picture is probably the artist’s wife. She is working on an engraving behind a textile screen that serves to distribute the light more evenly.
