This is naive thinking. Seriously. If we want to act on climate change then groundmount lets us scale up fast and cheaply. Covering car parks etc is a nice idea and part of the solution- but it is a slow and expensive process. Trust me. I know.

oh sure, it's the same panels for groundmount or anything, but one needs really big footings and a ton of structural steel, and the other one doesn't.

Perovskite tandems will find short-term use cases, e.g. solar on cars for trickle charging (which I think will happen, esp in sunny climes).
That's because the cells can be serviced & replaced every few years.
For groundmount, I can't see them achieving the desired useful life.

as i've been doing groundmount only, i can say at least in eversong forests case there arent enough flightpoints, with 2 for the whole zone. fine if you use your flying mount but a pita otherwise.

The United States is expected to grow its solar fleet by more than 25% in 2024, with over 8 GW of distributed solar and more than 40 GW of utility-scale solar expected to be installed.

I'm guessing the installation is also done on the cheap, just a groundmount without worrying too much about permits and similar. And I assume they come with inverters.
