Scaling for peak heating gives me the absolute willies, and we aren't going to get there without a multifront campaign on insulation, groundsource heat, district heating with direct geothermal or other clean heat sources, and large scale energy storage.
Given the ambient temperatures ranging from -20C to -30C in southern Ontario (where the bulk of the population lives), even with aggressive Cold-Cliamte designs, to do this heating via ASHP would need ~40GWe over and above the ~25GWe peak we had. This is on a system that averages ~16GWe now.

Wow. 1% of US houses are heated with a groundsource, or geothermal, heat pump. That's far more than I would have thought.

I have solar/battery +am getting an EV soon. I’m in profit already this month. It was such a good investment particularly in the current climate. I’ve had it just over a year and I’ve saved £2228 off my bills already according to the system. I don’t have gas. All electric with groundsource heatpump.

But We aren't just releasing data. We also shared details about our new flash flood forecasting model that was trained flood events data from Groundsource. This allows us to better predict flash floods up to 24 hours in advance. 3/n

We installed groundsource heatpump (airsource werent good then) in 2007.We moved 4 yrs ago but according to our old neighbours its still going strong.Only needed to have minor repairs twice. It was v expensive in 2007 as *fairly* new tech but repaid the investment eventually (we were on oil before).

We installed groundsource heatpump (airsource werent good then) in 2007.We moved 4 yrs ago but according to our old neighbours its still going strong.Only needed to have minor repairs twice. I think that we need to differentiate between geothermal and groundsource. The Framingham heat source is groundsource (relatively constant temperature of the ground below the frost line) not geothermal (deriving heat from deep in the earth).
