The manoeuvres some of them are taking to avoid gybing is quite impressive. Although another seems to be avoiding tacking, too, by capsizing every time he wants to change direction.

The leading pack has gybed and Yoann Richomme has cemented his lead a little more, stretching out nearly 9nm from Dalin. They will keep gybing to stay with the pressure system they’ve hooked into - the boats are fast enough now that they usually move ahead of the system, being spat into light airs.

Gybing frightens many beginner sailors because the boom can cross the boat very quickly.
Understand the wind. Control the mainsheet. Expect the boom. Duck. Turn smoothly.

This is why I run my responses through a dictionary and a thesaurus prior to posting.

The sky was pretty epic yesterday morning in Exmouth, Devon. As we were starting the beach clean, someone rigged up a sails and smashed it out to sea. It was so windy yet water was flat as a pancake. Looking forward to getting back on the water.
