This paper is a part of the H2Ohio initiative - one of my fave state funding programs for Great Lakes research (ahem, Gov Whitmer)

Unfortunately, like all other universally beneficial things, this program is being threatened by budget cuts from Ohio lawmakers

In 2014, the tap water in Toledo was unsafe to bathe in -- much less drink -- effectively poisoned by an overgrowth of toxic algae in Lake Erie. In response, the state started a drinking water protection program called H2Ohio.

Now that program is facing deep cuts.
