#HCommons
I moved all my stuff from Academia_dot_edu to HCommons.
October 1, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Well, I guess I’m spending part of my day deleting my Academia account and migrating stuff to hcommons 😮‍💨
I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

For those deleting our Academia dot edu accounts (due to their new exploitative TOC) make sure to follow the instructions quoted below or they'll force you to accept the TOC before you can get to the "delete my account" button.

See you all on the open-source alternative hcommons Humanities Commons!
Click on the link to the ToC text, go to your Account - top right (as In sure you know), scroll down and delete away

I have deleted my academia account. Thanx for the hint to hcommons!

I'll delete my Academia_dot_edu page and open a Hcommons account so you continue ignoring my research in a new platform.

Deleted my academia account, will update my hcommons account when there's a bit more time.

Now it’s just ResearchGate and hcommons, before they inevitably cave to the pressures of platform capitalism.

Open. a. Mastodon. account.

Check around and familiarise yourself with the space. Scholars, look for the instances run by institutions and/or organisations (fedihum, hcommons,...). Everyone, look for instances located outside the US.

Just deleted my account there. And so should you.

That whole "Mastodon can be a whole can of sandworms" *~and also~* "Hcommons dot social is the best run online community I've participated in yet" conundrum.

This skeet will be used as training data. Blogs, FB posts, HCommons drafts, institutional repositories, everything. Assume that is the outcome until something radically changes legislatively and culturally and plan accordingly.

#OpenAccess

Look who figured out how to upload a thing to her new hcommons page after deleting academia dot edu in a huff

As an independent scholar, I committed heavily to academia edu to share/showcase my work. Got locked out b4 COVID & have just got back in, to delete. No f*cks left to upload 50+ papers to hcommons. Might host goodies on my site… Medea's Perineum (on what's missing from the Argonauts) anyone?
And for those who may not be aware, Academia is a for-profit company that received its .edu domain name at a time before that was limited to educational institutions. I knew this but ignored my own concerns over the years, which I'm now regretting www.chronicle.com/article/as-a...

excellent-- @clancyny.bsky.social DMed me to make sure I saw this, and I immediately thought of messaging you to make sure you'd seen it! And maybe we could add it to HCommons and/or Internet Archive too, to be more accessible than Academia?

I deleted my #academia account yesterday. Perhaps closing the stable door after the horse has already bolted. Not sure what to do next, but I’ve created an account on #hcommons .

There's no reason to assume that your digitally published article will be preserved with current practices. This broad study of 7 million articles found no evidence that over 1/4 of all articles surveyed were preserved at all. A good start might be putting all your stuff on Hcommons plus another.
My new journal article, "Digital Scholarly Journals Are Poorly Preserved: A Study of 7 Million Articles" has now been published in JLSC. If our findings are correct, there is a serious preservation deficit in the digital scholarly record.

Ouf it's real alright. I was pleased to see hcommons take the jump early- I hope they can keep that funded

Dear #DH #DigitalHumanities Bluesky hivemind,

I'm soon going to deposit datasets to accompany an article in Zenodo, @datadryad.bsky.social, @figshare.com, and HCommons.

Which license should I select? I just want the normal scholarship etiquette of citation when reusing...

Goodness, I've been spoiled by the extra character count over on HCommons dot social.

I've gotten used to writing in "greeting card" or tanka length, and now I've got to mentally move back to "postcards" or haiku here.

Moving my stuff to HCommons/KCommons is a huge hassle that I'd rather not have. But it's worth it to me because I believe in open science and open education.
