Heating networks take a lot of demand and really buffer it. We can also put in backup fuel sources to take load off the grid, and preheat and so on. Thermal storage is literally ridiculous cheap by comparison to anything else and plausibly seasonal

Got a new combi boiler over the summer to replace the old immersion tank. Gas usage since has been less than a third of last year, even before we get to the winter with the heating on! Hallelujah!
