The case for a HepB vaccine dose at birth:

1️⃣ Newborns are uniquely vulnerable If exposed to HepB at or around birth (often from mom), up to 90% of infected babies develop chronic HepB infection That means lifelong risk of cirrhosis + liver cancer 😨

Summary of what happened at Temu ACIP this morning:

As expected, they overturned the 30+ year recommendation for the birth dose of HepB vaccine, which has reduced the incidence of pediatric HepB by 99%.

They provided no credible evidence to support this decision.

Rumor says that RFKJ's NayCIP wants to delay the Hepatitis B (HepB) vaccine dose we give to newborns. What's the worst that could happen? 🤷‍♂️

Turns out that the earlier you get HepB, the more likely you are to deal with lifelong problems like cancer and permanent liver damage.

Awful, right?

2️⃣ Not all moms know they carry HepB

HepB can be silent and not cause symptoms

Even if mom is tested for HepB, the test might be a false negative

Or mom might get tested early in pregnancy and not have HepB. But then later, she gets infected without realizing it

Immediate bath, eye ointment, VitK and HepB shots. Baby barely cries and then it’s over. Prevents blindness, bleeding issues and with HepB boosters prevents major cause of liver cancer. Just stupid to skip any of it.

Two vax shots down (flu/covid), still shingles and HepB to go. Do it, y’all.

ACIP just punted the HepB vote until tomorrow. I will be watching so I’ll update when that happens.

Many patients who did not have access to HepB vaccines at birth will have chronic HepB later in life. These folks often require liver transplants thanks to the HepB - which is *vaccine-preventable* but only ‘cured’ by removing one’s liver.

So, yeah, I’d opt for the pharmaceutical intervention.

Murkowski (R, beautiful Alaska): Vaccines have made a huge difference in improving the health of indigenous children, but you have expressed opposition to HepB vaccine.

Means: HepB is effective and has saved lives, but parents should be able talk to their doctors (note: they already do).

Cassidy: is universal HepB vaccine access an important goal?

Means: parental autonomy is the most important thing

Cassidy: they already have autonomy

This isn't even a slight exaggeration. He is actively working on destroying the US's entire vaccine infrastructure. The HepB vote will be tomorrow, where they will get rid of the birth dose and recommend it at 30 days, dooming a bunch of infants to chronic infection ft. cirrhosis, cancer, and death.

A couple more thoughts on the HepB vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau that RFK Jr. just funded.

-A single-blind study is concerning

-The endpoints are unclear, setting up an opportunity for p-hacking

-The U.S. should be funding expanded use of the HepB birth dose in G-B and not experimenting

Dr. Sandra Fryhofer from the AMA emphatically points out the awful consequences of HepB, and says “we have a duty to protect these little babies”.

She also correctly points out that the U.S. healthcare system is not equipped to test everyone who comes into contact with infants for HepB.

Remember that exploitative and unethical clinical trial of HepB vaccine in Guinea-Bissau that RFK Jr. funded?

It’s been cancelled.

In response, Milhoan claims that data supporting the birth dose of HepB vaccines are themselves “speculative”.

This is belied by the documented 99% reduction in pediatric HepB since the birth dose was initiated.

Senator Bill Cassidy is a physician w/ an active license in Louisiana. In 30 yrs in public hospitals, he says his greatest accomplishment was a program to provide no -cost HepB vaccines to kids after he saw the harm of vaccine-preventable disease (liver failure)

He voted to advance RFK’s nomination
They heard him say to their faces he won’t stop trying to take vaccines off the market and personally profiting off antivaccine activities, that he thinks Black people have different immune systems, and that he believes Lyme disease is “a military-engineered bioweapon,” and they chose to advance him
