To quote HGTTG again “This has made many people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
Scientists have discovered a family of retroviruses that invaded the genomes of chimps and other primates, silencing genes involved with brain development, while humans were left unaffected.

My mind flew to HGttG!
October 22, 2026 at 1:29 PM
Wait! Is this HGttG?! 👍🏼 🌌

If so, I did not know there was one beyond the original.

[Tried to find my copy of 'HGTTG' & place it next to Ozzie along with a towel, but couldn't find it, so please just imagine it. 🙃]

I truly keep thinking about Wonko the Sane in HGTTG and some days it's like the world has turned into Spitting Image and we are just remote viewers
😬 Katie Zacharia's first press briefing was brutally bad 😬

Trump managed to find a press secretary who can barely read, but she does have the number one qualification -- looking like Ivanka

Here's a supercut from Zacharia's first briefing, which made Karoline Leavitt seem like Ronald Reagan

Just makes me think of that great HGttG song from the movie adaptation

You can't spell "Sirius Cybernetics Corporation" without "Si!"

But also I’d say that HGTTG does have a lot of its humor based on things that irked Adams at the time some of which might not age well

I remember reading HGttG in English class which was how I got into some of the classic nerd stuff. Are the kids 'not into something' or were they just not introduced to something because we live in a super saturated media environment with a certain skew to what's new and already popular?
Elsewhere on Bluesky folks are noting that The Kids These Days aren't much into Douglas Adams. As someone who is much into Douglas Adams (and in fact wrote an intro to new edition of his works) allow me to remind folks that it's not actually surprising when The Kids aren't into decades-old stuff.

Adams perfectly rewrote HGTTG for each new medium himself, making dramatic changes that would have enraged modern 'fans' because of their omissions, additions and shifts in focus.

Time passing is a similar phenomenon.

None of my young people enjoyed HGTTG, but they all enjoy DCC, much to my relief. Hitchhikers just didn't translate culturally for them.

As much as I love HGTTG, yes, that was then and it was for us. Each nee generation deserves fresh food that feeds their souls in the times they find themselves.

Besides it’ll save me the awkward looks from my kids when they get to the reference about Roxy Music’s Avalon being sexy time music.

HGttG has been a favorite series of mine for over thirty years. It's as much a part of my life as Star Trek, even more so than Doctor Who. 🩷

HGTTG but updated to today - the phone disinfectant service will be stopped via an AI instruction.

HGTTG definitely. Dirk Gently is less accessible if you don't have an English or quantum physics background?

Oh, I was well aware of the reference to HGTTG. I just happen to also be a petrolhead 😁

Watching through the BBC HGTTG series again recently.
The streaming encoding is awful (Prime) but the show is still the best non-radio version of the book 😎👍🏻
The story so far:

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Wait people compare DCC to Discworld and HGTTG? I haven't read DCC and that still sounds wrong to me just based on what I've heard about it.
August 19, 2026 at 3:21 PM
Ironic, given HGTTG is about the answer being the problem, and Foundation is about the limits of prediction. Citing them as wisdom is branding, not reading. The real test: does the product reflect the book's actual insight?

This year our founder celebrates his 42nd birthday and wants to have a HGttG themed get together! 🥰
