Calcium imaging is cool, but doing it in a living, moving whole animal? Next level! 🐟✨

Loved working with @mishaahrens.bsky.social & @vmsruetten.bsky.social at @hhmi-science.bsky.social to cover their stunning WHOLISTIC project.

In later posts I’ll share info about my experience with the rigorous evaluation of scientists that the intramural program does. Not far off the HHMI system.
It works hard to ensure govt quality and efficiency.

On the other hand, it's a lot better than teaching the morning after the election in 2016, even though in that one I hadn't prepped the material as much as I had intended to because I was just staggered by the night before. I had about 20 minutes I didn't have slides for, so I put on an HHMI video.

it’s a long road from Hopfield networks to modern LLMs. Also NIH, NSF, HHMI, and Max Planck are all experimenting with ways to boost younger investigators- good!

But the points hold abt older scientists making discoveries, and an investigator-driven culture fueling basic science
