#HWFWM
I’ve seen many people that love DCC say they hate HWFWM because the main character is an asshole

Love HWFWM. It's a much more successful version of the snarky anarchist geek hero that I've been coasting on for 50 books. :)

Just got a good look at the body pillow in the HWFWM kickstarter. That is the TWINKEST leonin I have ever seen in my life. Cowards. The lot of 'em.

One of the things that makes HWFWM feel ponderous and, at times, actively tedious is the constant repeating of full skill descriptions, including effects per level. Even if it was recently detailed.

Just finished He Who Fights With Monsters 13, and it's good but I'm glad the series is wrapping up with 14.

I found myself skipping a few paragraphs at a time fairly often, I'm really over the political BS and "Jason being Jason"

Still a pretty good series overall.

HWFWM moments like that are why people love it! For something lighter between books, my British scifi comedy The Time Diary is about how one idiot with too much power keeps destroying the world. Short chapters, twists and big scifi ideas: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8VG16RP

Only 13 minutes left is the cruellest willpower test! Enjoy the end of book 11. If you want a short, funny scifi read after all that HWFWM, The Time Diary is a British comedy about how one idiot with too much power can destroy the world, repeatedly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8VG16RP

Lovely review, HWFWM is such a fun ride! If you ever want a short, silly break from the big LitRPG doorstops, The Time Diary is a British scifi comedy in the Hitchhiker's vein, all short chapters and big daft ideas. It's free on Kindle 31 Oct to 2 Nov: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0F8VG16RP

If I decide to abandon HWFWM 1 (Shirtaloon), it won't count since I've already read it (and the first 11 sequels) fairly recently. I can skip to book 13 if I grow impatient.

I’m as caught up as I can be* on DCC and HWFWM. What are some other good LitRPG series I can get going on?

bookshop order arrived

ive read these multiple times on ebook, but bought the physical copies because my partner said she is more likely to read these versions and all of this digital licensing bs

the actual hardcovers of hwfwm are both dope and hilarious

I'm somewhat new to both audiobooks and LitRPG/Progression Fantasy (blame DCC!) and have tried out a few book 1s. Mark of the Fool is my favourite so far.

• HWFWM suffers from having a smug preachy know-it-all MC.

• Primal Hunter is good, but lacks a moral centre - seems very "might-makes-right".

I haven’t read any of He Who Fights With Monsters, but general opinion seems to be that Carl books get better and better, while HWFWM are diminishing returns after the second book.

I'm finding Chrysalis easier to get into than HWFWM, guess I like the writing style and the MC's internal monologue a little better. I'm on book 2.

For the colony!

Lair Book Review: HWFWM Book 2

Finishing up book 12 of HWFWM, next up is either 'Azarinth Healer' or 'Chrysalis', whichever grabs my attention first.

Fortunately these people tend to write pretty quickly.

More entertained overall by HWFWM, I don't find Jason as annoying as some people do.

Jake is better at avoiding things that make the story less interesting, and I find the larger universe of PH more well developed.

Up next on my reading list, it's probably He Who Fight with Monsters or Bobiverse.

Any thoughts on that front are appreciated, especially in terms of how much they fall under a litRPG umbrella. I've seen claims both directions for Bobiverse. HWFWM seems much more clearly a yes.
