You know what? Fuck off, @saveur.com. 3 different ownership groups over the years and not one of them can figure out when my holidays are or what you're supposed to serve during them (they once did a Passover post with challah, suggested hamantaschen for Hanukkah…)
I may not be able to continue listening to this book after hearing the narrator pronounce “hamantaschen” so horrifically I may never recover.

According to the rabbi and chef Gil Marks z"l, who wrote some amazing Jewish cookbooks despite his admittedly maximalist approach to Jewish food history (he's the guy who first claimed that plum hamantaschen were invented due to Povidlpurim in Moravia. He also claims the Jews invented baked beans.)

There is a story by J.R. Hamantaschen where a character dies, but our brains control both our perception of time and pain, so while the death takes only a second, the experience of it stretches for eternity in excruciating pain and... I haven't got that fear out of my head and I read it years ago.

At the same time, my style of Jewish "practice" is more going to hamantaschen baking party the weekend of Purim and eating tons of cookies alongside spicy meatloaf pizza and slivovitz 🤷🏻 imo both are Jewish.
