I'm pretty sure in 2002 NYC labor unions were protesting Walmart because they were afraid that if Walmart entered the city it would destroy the hard-won gains of things like the grocery's union.
NYC still doesn't have a Walmart, and Hannafords and Hmart have live lobster tanks.

There's a thing that drives me nuts that I overhear all the time in Maine, and it's people calling "Hannaford," the supermarket, "Hannafords." Kate's mom does it, too, and true self-restraint is never correcting it.

Years ago when I was night crew at Hannafords, I heard someone call my name, but the other two guys were at the opposite end of the store
