Wenn man von Hacking hört (unbekannte, nischige Website) und dass die Angreifer wohl an Passwörter kamen, hat man auch genug gehört.

Bei Passwörtern funktioniert das, weil Du die PWs nicht zurück entschlüsseln musst, sondern das PW, was die User später eingeben einfach auch hasht und dann mit dem hash aus der DB vergleichst.
Das funktioniert bei DMs leider nicht. Es ist möglich, dass sie es sync encrypten - ich frag mal :)
