#earlymodern I spent hours photographing Isabella Twysden marginalia in the BL only to realise when back home that BL has digitised all the Twysden almanacs

Evidence of French female book ownership, possibly early/mid #16thc (albeit crossed out by an eager male colleague) @martinevanelk.bsky.social
I’ve just finished upgrading the catalogue record of this cracker, with its nice #herbook inscription (thanks to @shantigraheli.bsky.social for the transcription input). A big 👏 to my conservation colleagues for the fab rebind to make this accessible again eleanor.lib.gla.ac.uk/record=b4202...

Found poetry signed by a Mary Middleton Lynn (?) on the back flyleaf of a 1778 translation of Messiah by Klopstock. Googling hasnt turned up the text yet, so maybe original. I love finding women's names!

This was in CWRU's special collections 831.62 M21.

A rare 1691 French devotional book for religious novices. Belonged to Roesbrugge Abbey, home to a group of Augustinian canonesses. Founded 1239, moved to Ypres in the 16thC, destroyed 1744, rebuilt, sold 1798, destroyed in WWI & rebuilt. Truly #nuntastic! @theulspeccoll.bsky.social CCE.81.24.

The amendments are wonderful evidence of women, communal book use, and liturgical agency. #herbook
Women religious books are not always conventionally pretty, but are quite #nuntastic. This is ceremonial for Discalced Carmelite sisters (Antwerp, Plantin, 1656), property of Discalced Carmelite nuns of Kortrijk (Belgium), with their manuscript amendments and some probably in-house binding work.
