Apple Frog was done on three layers: rough sketch, color, and the soft background wash. I blocked in the base colors, then hid the sketch layer, and rendered using a "lost edge" technique—letting values, light, and color contrast define forms and volume rather than relying on line art. #art #herps

This is his hunting spot. I saw him jumping to another plant and nearly got a Skipper, then he jumped back in the Euphorbia and reassumed the camouflaged position. 🌱🦎

Had a fantastic time in Florida filled with friends, herps, and biologizing! Check out this gopher tortoise, a protected and threatened species in Florida. They are the only land tortoise native to the Southeastern US and live in sandy pine forests! Always so cool to see (from afar!)

I recorded this Common Snapping #Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) as I thought it might show interest in eating that #Pumpkinseed, as they are known to be good scavengers.

Clearly this was not the case this time.
