Calculus as a subject is “nearly 400 years old”?L’Hopital’s calculus textbook has a publication date of 1696–I’d probably go with “well over 500 years old…” #HistoryOfMath

Libraries are great resources. In algebra at @trianglemath.bsky.social we had topics like math duels & adventures by Cardano, Tartaglia, etal & imag nums as embarrassing kluge last wk-on to Viète. Here’s book for middle/high & one on 0 for yngr Ss-both fascinating #historyOfMath! #mtbos #iteachmath

We all had #mathisfun at the Durham Public Library today for K-3 students learning about the integer partition problem. I read the book, "Friend of Numbers: The Life of Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan" by Priya Narayanan and we explored breaking up integers. #mtbos #iteachmath #historyOfMath

We had a lot of #mathisfun in our 1st-3rd grade #mathCircle looking at angles & seeing angles of a triangle add to 180deg. We discussed why we use 360 instead of a power of 10 to measure angles and talked a bit about #historyOfMath and zero. One student made their own protractor! #mtbos #iteachmath

A #HistoryOfMath moment, for no particular reason... My usually taciturn PhD advisor once related an anecdote about his experience as a Chern student (so, 1970s) - he said Chern was of the opinion that there were infinitely many complex structures on \\(S^6\\) - but that they were just hard to find.
