They *want* people hived off into antagonistic groups; they *want* people to believe that they can't form cross-cutting social ties; and they *want* people to see all institutions everywhere as eternally compromised.

The problem with asking if Dem rhetoric inspired the attack is it implies words like "fascist" or "authoritarian" are mere name-calling that can be hived off from Trump's true agenda.

Begs the question - why wasn’t Britain working before when they hived off all the profit and didn’t invest in their businesses.

Trump is privately worried about the "optics" of ICE raids and his advisers are looking for ways to soften them, Axios reports. I'm calling bullshit: The terror and violence cannot be hived off from the broader policy agenda. They are 100% intrinsic to it.

Trump’s Own Advisers Suddenly Unnerved as ICE Raids Take Horrific Turn
So the president doesn’t like the “optics” of what ICE is doing. But there’s no such thing as sanitized, popular mass deportations—and this is by design.

Pretty grim turn of events that has forced the Guardian staff to strike.

Not a decision they will have taken lightly. But if the Observer gets hived off and loses its editorial anchor, the imbalance in our press will worsen further.
To be clear: I love the Guardian & Observer. I have devoted 20 years of my life to it. I believe it’s one of the most important platforms for liberal journalism in the world. And I’m one of 700+ journalists who believe this is profoundly wrong
700+ journalists at Britain’s only liberal newspaper(s) believe that something has gone so profoundly wrong in their own organisation that 93% of them have voted to go on strike

Where the hell are these bloated universities? When almost everyone has stripped out layer after layer, chucking everything out of the balloon to stay aloft? When many critical functions have been centralised, ripped out and hived off to a call centre? Are these unis in the room with us now Roger?

Anyway, "conservatives" are not an abstraction to most liberals/leftists. Almost every liberal or leftist encounters conservatives in their workplace, went to school with them, lived next door to them. It's conservatives who are more likely to have hived themselves off into homogenous spaces.

This is me, by the way. I'm the one in my family with indefinite leave to remain. The father, the husband who would be hived off under these proposals.
There are proposals to cancel Indefinite Leave to Remain.
That would tear families apart — including my own.
My wife could have been separated from her children under. People like my friend Tariq, who’ve lived here since babies, could be taken from their communities.

These people are Britain.

Bending public opinion to fit your political will has become much easier recently due to 1) partisan polarization and 2) the declining influence of "mainstream media" that strove for a modicum of objectivity. Trump has hived off tens of millions of people into a world of his own creation.

On the way to a Russia type system where essential services are defunded & the money hived off into the kleptocracies pockets. But when things go wrong, instead of blaming the kleptocracy, it's the heads of the essential services that get blamed & locked up or sent to Siberia

Soon we’ll all be hived into our separate niche dramas, each with their own main character. Just as God intended.

The problem with the UK regulatory state and quangos is it's abitrary. With the exception of some regulators who are clearly necessary and need to be independent there's no real clarity as to why some functions are hived out and some aren't. Or why some things are regulated and others not.

A bookseller told me they’d sold a copy of my sapphic beekeeper romance to a customer, and that customer later found a swarm of bees in her yard — and she recognized what they were doing and was able to get them properly hived!
This bee book saves bees!

It doesn't matter that the oil industry *as a whole* still has vast resources - or that it's earning record profits. Individual sectors, regions, and assets in decline get hived off to smaller operators (like DCOR here) with structural incentives to cut corners. The result is instability and danger
