They are depressed because homm3 lacks all of the cartoonish charm of homm1 & homm2 and instead has really rancid early 3d rendered sprites instead

This looks incredible, seems a lot closer to HoMM1-3 than later entries.

It's probably a niche complaint not many people share;
But a thing which I liked about HoMM1 to 4 was the diversity in heroes, particularly also the breaking of traditional gender roles with some (so many female might-heroes for example!) and the new one just doesn't really deliver this anymore :(

HOMM5 was VERY linear. They never figured out how to emulate HOMM1/2/3 AI patterns.

Nival got away with it with heavily-scripted campaigns.

This October marks a 30 years anniversary of the game franchise that shaped my childhood: Heroes of Might and Magic. I loved it's lore and played it a lot, TBS (HoMM1-4) as well as RPGs (MM6-9), and I still listen to the HoMM3 timeless soundtrack by Paul Romero ❤️

its identical to HOMM1 except larger resolution i think, but theres a much more noticeable difference in the visual style between 2 and 3, which went more for that 90s CG instead of colorful pixel art
