On Sunday, November 1, 2026, UP 5000 is in Alvarado Siding while another train passes, at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad club in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA. UP 5000 is my Scale Trains model. The real UP 5000 was a GE U50C. Reportedly it was built in 1969, builder's number 37139, and scrapped in 1977.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, two Southern Pacific (SP) Halloween units were working in Klamath Junction Yard at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. SP 6351 and 5665 are HO Athearn Genesis models. The real SP 6351 was an EMD F7A, SP Class DF-7. Reportedly it was built in 1951, serial number 12756. It became SP Class EF415A-7 in the 1965 renumbering. It was retired and sold in 1967.

On November 10, 2018, my HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) Halloween Scheme GP9 5665 was in Klamath Junction on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. This is an Athearn Genesis model. The real SP 5665 was an EMD GP9, SP Class DF-607. Reportedly: It was built in 1956, serial 21358. In the 1965 renumbering it became SP 3498. It was rebuilt in 1972 becoming SP 3373.

My HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) 9016 was leading a westbound local, switching "Tuolumne" on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA on Saturday, November 28, 2015. This is an Overland Brass model. The real SP 9016 was a Kraus-Maffei, ML-4000, SP Class DF-801. It became SP Class KF636-1 and SP 9119. Reportedly, it was built in 1964, construction number 19112. It was retired in 1967 and scrapped.

Canadian National (CN) 9644 leads an eastbound local out of the Mission Bay yard on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA, during a DC run on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The model is an Atlas Silver Series that has not (yet) been upgraded to DCC. The real CN 9644 was a GMD GP40-2(W). Reportedly it was built in 1976, serial number A3439. It was retired and sold in 2000, becoming MEC 511.

The risks in tiny drilling are two and a half. (1) You will not get the angle quite perfect; in correcting it, you break the drill bit. (2) You break the bit off in the casting irrecoverably. (2.5) You burn through too many bits. Wax lubricant helps - as does experience. #HOScale #ModelRailroad
