A whooper swan at Hogganfield Loch in the east of Glasgow. Distinguishable from the resident mute swans by their bright yellow beaks (mute swans have orange ones), these are winter visitors.

They arrive here each autumn from Iceland and other far-flung places, and depart again the following spring.

A colony of mining bees at Hogganfield Loch in the east of Gladgow. These solitary bees dig nests into sandy soil, creating these distinctive piles of excavated sand on the surface.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Touchdown, birds at the moment of landing, and in this case I went for water. Unfortunately, gulls aren't the most elegant water landers, they tend to just belly-flop in and sort it out after, like this Lesser Black-Backed Gull taken at #hogganfieldloch

You can see one of the bees itself in the bottom left of the picture.

Swans at #HogganfieldLoch #Glasgow. In the early 90s this park was sterile mown grass. The mosaic of habitats now provides home to loads of wildlife. The late Ian Gibson @scottishbirding.bsky.social was largely responsible for the rewilding, before it was a thing.
