Newer Frame TVs don't have an API command to start Art Mode even though Samsung runs SmartThings, so you can't reliably automate them to turn on and off when you come home or leave the house. whyyyy

Project "Migrate from HomeBridge to Home Assistant" is complete.
All the old HomeBridge entities are removed from HomeKit, new Home Assistant ones with same names added, and the HomeBridge servivce uninstalled.
Voice control through Siri seems more responsive.

update: the homebridge-kasa-python plugin cuts out the al*xa middleman and has much less lag!

Spent some time this weekend trying to control my home’s Lithuanian ventilation system with HomeKit via Homebridge, but after several hours realised I’m going to die some day and perhaps opening a third-party app isn’t so bad after all

I love VMs.
I just installed HomeBridge and HomeAssistant on separate VMs in Hyper-V.
HomeBridge was easy to install, and while it was downloading an update, it died and would not come back to life. HomeAssistant would not even boot off the .vhdx it had me download.
So I deleted them.

I love VMs.
I just installed HomeBridge and HomeAssistant on separate VMs in Hyper-V.
HomeBridge was easy to install, and while it was downloading an update, it died and would not come back to life. HomeAssistant would not even boot off the .vhdx it had me download.

if you wanna follow along, here's what i'm doing:

> applications (unifi controller, homebridge, etc - backups + patches)
> network gear patches (mostly making sure my opnsense box is fully patched)

Slowly I have been moving most of my home network stuff to `tailscale serve`. I just recently moved my homebridge's UI interface to it. Homebridge UI binds to 127.0.0.1:8000, Tailscale does all of the reverse proxy stuff.

Already using them on my home automation server for Zigbee2MQTT, Homebridge etc
This latest iMac/Linux install is for my ex wife, so she can have a useable computer again for work. No more Apple planned-obsolescence! Take that big tech! 💪
