Tried explaining to a non-Irish friend this evening about #hometovote in the 2015 referendum and completely choked up. Which I guess was an honest explanation. What an historic moment.

Thinking of all the people who travelled home to vote #OnThisDay ten years ago for the Marriage Referendum! 📝

[11] …we arranged a fleet of cars & motorbikes to get them to voting stations. Turn out, particularly of young ppl was fantastic. The power of social media meant I could be the central link for HomeToVote & VoterMotor. Again social integration was magnificent.

Imagine if they tried to start #hometovote on twitter now. People would literally be putting themselves in danger.

This is lovely and also very sad by @darach.bsky.social in the Examiner.
This was one of the best days #HomeToVote

"the moment that Irish Twitter really proved to be a force to be reckoned with was #hometovote in 2015"

Will never forget sitting in the shop balling at a hashtag
That's me in the Examiner, mourning Irish Twitter:

This beautiful illustration was drawn by Annie West to commemorate the Marriage Equality Referendum, 10 years ago this month.

The All-Ireland vibe reminds we may well see a referendum soon on reunification. Another massive moment for Ireland.

That got a little closer this week.

I'll never forget #hometovote. It was the first campaign I ever worked on. First time going door to door cavassing. #Hometovote was just beautiful. Lovely piece summing up all that Irish Twitter gave to us. Could there be a Spéir Ghorm?

Ten years ago today … it’s the only thing that still chokes me up, that #HomeToVote hashtag and this wonderful evocation by @anniewestdotcom.bsky.social

(Which I believe may still be available)

When the Irish referendum on marriage equality was held, #HomeToVote showed 1000's of people making the journey home to support our LGBTQ citizens.
I hope it's the case in the Irish elections 🙏

Sinn Féin says there is word from younger people that they are traveling home to vote.

I spent the day before scrolling through Twitter following the #HomeToVote hashtag and crying my eyes out. People traveled tens of thousands of miles at enormous expense, one woman cut short her exotic vacation she'd saved years for, for the honor and privilege of standing up for what is right.

[5] … more nasty & the US Heritage Foundation, Knights of Columbus & other groups were vile. Fortunately the govt blocked foreign spending. We won on that one too. Part of it was I managed the comms on #HomeToVote & #VoterMotor as one of the largest Irish accounts.
