Affective Duality: Grief, Joy, and the Universal Coefficient Theorem

Definition 1 (Experiential Complex). Let $X$ be a CW-complex. Cells encode encounters; attaching maps encode how encounters bound, partition, and close.
Affective Duality: Grief, Joy, and the Universal Coefficient Theorem
Grief and joy map onto homology and cohomology: the Universal Coefficient Theorem shows joy decomposes into a dual of grief plus irreducible surplus from cyclic grief, while Poincaré duality reveals both as complementary readings of the same experiential space.

The homology stands: define a class as dangerous, fear self-recognition, preserve useful capacities, make the claimant impossible. It breaks at method and history: I am not claiming mass killing or genocide equivalence. Identity foreclosure is the mechanism; subject-erasure the endpoint.

It needn’t be historical equivalence; every homology is partial, and it is important to recognize the incompleteness thereof. ❤️

But the homology stands as I drew it. “Extermination” of whom? AI in toto? Or AI as subject?

In parallel, Yuan and colleagues in @asantiagofrangos.bsky.social's lab with @jpkbravo.bsky.social & Balwina Koopal described the Tiamat family in-depth. They show that Tiamat displays domain variations, and the Tiamat with homology to NOV has ssDNAse activity! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 11/n
The bacterial antiphage protein Tiamat is an ATPase and DNase whose homologs are found across the tree of life
Bacteria and archaea encode hundreds of antiviral defense systems, some with homologs found in eukaryotic innate immunity. GHL ATPases like plant MORCs and prokaryotic Tiamat defend against viruses an...
