#HopwoodTriangle
It will be interesting to see if GMCA takes similar action over the CRSTS funded #HopwoodTriangle @walkridegm.org.uk
Croydon unlawfully removed a safety scheme paid for with public money.

Rightly, TfL have required the money to be repaid & paused future funding - subject to the council submitting a revised plan that meets the requirements.

This is massively disappointing about the #HopwoodTriangle - it’s not even had a week to bed in yet.

Once again Rochdale Council demonstrating that everyone who isn’t a driver is an afterthought?

Today should mark the start of the #HopwoodTriangle scheme - removing through traffic from Middleton Road. We hope this is a success and is made permanent, as it should enable more walking to Hopwood Primary and Newhouse School @solveschoolrun.bsky.social

Not aware of any scheme since #MilkstoneAndDeeplish was abandoned.

Could argue that the #HopwoodTriangle is a mini-LTN?

Some clarity on the #HopwoodTriangle - the scheme measures will come in between now and next Friday with the final step being the closure of this junction.

It’s important that anyone living in the scheme gives feedback - it will make walking to Hopwood primary much safer

Through the #HopwoodTriangle earlier and there was no sign of the scheme, and Manchester Road busy with through traffic.

This will go down as another missed opportunity to make Heywood’s streets safer for pedestrians.

One of the concerns raised about the #HopwoodTriangle was its effect on businesses - but it seems highly likely that removing fast-moving rat runners cutting through to the M62 will benefit the businesses on Middleton Rd by increasing footfall
July 24, 2026 at 1:11 PM
We’re also about to lose a scheme put in at residents request because of KSIs on a rat run because the township chair is spineless, and at risk of the borough losing any future CRSTS funding #HopwoodTriangle

The #HopwoodTriangle has had a stay of execution while the correct process is followed.

As Cllr Place identifies voices on both sides of the argument need to be heard - please make your views known to the email address below.

Tonight is the #Heywood township meeting where the #HopwoodTriangle scheme is going to be discussed. This should be an easy win to remove a terrible rat run and make people’s lives better. Let’s hope it’s approved.

#HopwoodTriangle delayed until after the Cadent works on Manchester Rd have finished

We understand that, last night, the decision was made to withdraw the #HopwoodTriangle scheme.

We are disappointed by this. It is not yet clear what the next steps will be but this can only be seen as a backwards step for road safety and puts further GMCA highways funding for Rochdale at risk.

An update on the #HopwoodTriangle - there will be an additional Heywood Township meeting tonight to discuss the scheme. It's really important that all voices are heard, so if you have not made a submission please do so @walkridegm.org.uk
August 27, 2026 at 8:30 AM
Sadly it’s the same everywhere. There is an emergency township meeting tomorrow night to discuss pulling out the #HopwoodTriangle trial round here, a scheme put in to reduce rat running and resultant KSIs near a primary school @walkriderochdale.org.uk @walkridegm.org.uk
August 26, 2026 at 7:10 AM
Don't forget - today is the day that Rochdale Council is due to close the junction between Middleton Road & Manchester Road to prevent drivers cutting down a residential street to reach the M62. All houses in the #HopwoodTriangle scheme remain accessible via Coronation Avenue @walkridegm.org.uk
July 17, 2026 at 7:00 AM
Just a reminder that today #Rochdale Council will close the junction between Manchester Road and Middleton Road as part of the #HopwoodTriangle scheme.

Residents have been asking for this for over 20 years, as Middleton Rd is a narrow residential street, not a cut-through to the M62.

The length of time anything takes is unbelievable, isn’t it? Locally we’ve been arguing about putting in a modal filter for 20 years #HopwoodTriangle
April 8, 2026 at 7:13 AM
Spinelessness in the face of FB comments is consistently disappointing. Locally councillors have pulled the #HopwoodTriangle scheme to close a nasty rat run which includes a primary school because of early backlash @solveschoolrun.bsky.social @walkridegm.org.uk
August 29, 2026 at 10:45 AM
Local to us there is a change that people have been asking for for 20 years. Really, all that’s needed apart from the powers is to forklift a temporary barrier across a junction but even that seems too much… #HopwoodTriangle @walkriderochdale.org.uk
April 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM
Now the #LocalElection2026 is behind us, please can Rochdale Council go ahead with the #HopwoodTriangle scheme? Middleton Road is a narrow residential street and is unsuitable for through traffic - people living there have been asking for a solution for 20 years @walkridegm.org.uk
May 8, 2026 at 9:01 AM
Signs are up warning of the junction closure tomorrow. The bits about “allow extra time for your journey” seems a bit superfluous though.

The #HopwoodTriangle will remain fully open for walking and cycling, and for cars via Coronation Ave - just not to through traffic @walkridegm.org.uk

Locally our Labour council seems determined to pull out one modal filter put in in July on a trial basis, because of KSIs on a nasty rat run, because a load of people have got angry on FB.
By so doing they are risking future highways funding for the borough #HopwoodTriangle
