I also played houseleague & rep hockey & was a huge Leafs fan, watching games religiously with my Dad. Then I became a Hockey Mom to my sons & I'll always be a "Buds" fan, regardless of no cups won during my lifetime.😬😆 I even have their logo tattooed on my ankle, my Dad loved that.

The simple reason is that those in power know that power comes from free agency--the ability to move in society. Take away ppl's options/joy no matter how small, and you can cow them.

In Canada, no checking in houseleague and only at 13 for higher level. And bad hits result in game misconduct- very little takes place anymore. My son played AAAfor years- no concussions on his team. They are few and far between. There is More in football. Hockey is still huge for minors- even girls
