Florida's lawsuit alleges $210 of a $280 Humalog vial goes back to middlemen. Allegations, disputed, but the structure is the point: caps on one price do not touch the other price. zanesampson.substack.com/p/the-insuli...
The Insulin Patent Sold for $1 So Everyone Could Afford It. The Industry Turned It Into a Billion-Dollar Shakedown.
Florida just sued the insulin makers and pharmacy middlemen over a pricing scheme. Here is how a $1 patent became a drug people ration to survive the cost of.

But here is the catch I keep coming back to. Florida alleges about $210 of a $280 Humalog vial flows back to middlemen as rebates and discounts. Allegations, disputed. Still, if the gap lives partly in rebate plumbing, capping the sticker price leaves the plumbing intact.

I am not going to compete, as that's a game where the winner is the lower.
I will say instead of sleeping pills mine was 300U of U-100 Humalog. I should be having card night with John Snow right now.

Hui, jetzt aber schon mal mit dem ganzen #Pen voller #Humalog abfixen, damit der #Blutzucker nicht durch die #Decke geht!

I use Humalog, made by Lilly. My doc prescribed me the kwikpens, which come in a 3 pack. No stores in my area carry the generic, it is a 3 to 5 day wait for them to order it. With a COUPON it is $183.98. For 9 MILLILITERS OF INSULIN.

Those pens do not require an additional $158.98 worth of plastic

Any diabetics at the Xponential festival today carrying extra humalog or Lispro? If so, hit me up. My pump is holding less than 10u right now. #xpn #xponential

Due to shit like this I have already run out of Humalog and had to buy the stone age version of insulin from Walmart. My Omnipod can use stone age insulin so now I'm using syringes to inject myself with insulin every 3 hours (around the clock).

I had to explain the "math" for my Humalog prescription to my physician.

"There was a mistake with my Humalog prescription. I need a 90 day supply, which means 70 U/day × 90 days / 1,000 units per 10mL vial = 6.3 vials so 7 vials for 90 days. Right? The prescription you gave me is for 1 vial."

Fukit just dial up the Humalog

~130 of U-500 Humalin-R a day, plus ~75 of U-200 Humalog. Yeah, I know, it's a lot.

6-8 weeks until I get the pump. They're moving me over to Tresiba (ultra long acting insulin) and Humalog (fast acting before meals) in the meantime, although my doctor's surgery hasn't responded at all because they're useless.

Mom quit the long acting insulin in cream colored pen ("Toujeo") in early August '26 bc it also makes her legs balloon up w/ swelling & makes her feel like not getting out of bed + all over body rash.

She mostly does fine with only short acting insulin in blue pen ("Humalog").

Wait, where's my check from Lilly for my humalog?

In March 2026, I blogged about TrumpRx as a work-around to formulary “preferred” insulin brands, now applicable to both Cigna Express Scripts & Aetna/CVS Health’ Caremark. blog.sstrumello.com/2026/03/unbr...

Insulin should be a right (like breathing). So of course the Corporate Christofascists said no, god didn't heal you, you should work your ass off for it.

I could get a vial of humalog for $60 out of pocket in 2006.

By 2008 it was over 100$.
2010, 260$.

Medicine should NOT be for profit.

Like- my daily dosage of CREON varies depending on what I eat. My daily dosage of short-term insulin varies depending on what I eat. My long term insulin dosage varies depending on activity levels and blood glucose patterns (though it varies less than my Humalog does). They are treating all medical

und dann natürlich Humalog Insulin, 15 Einheiten zum Frühstück, später kleinere Dosen

Basically: patents on new drugs aren't necessarily a bad thing, but for example, Lantus is not a fundamentally different drug from Humalog.

It should be illegal for Medicare to update their formulary mid year from Humalog to Novolog and vice versa. It happens every single year.

Administered my humalog and going to administer my lantus tonight.

As an example: They wanted to give him 1 U of Humalog with a 30-g CHO meal.

For reference, that's about what I gave Eric when he was 3 for the same carb intake. NO WAY it's enough for a full grown adult male even in full health, never mind under the stressors of recent surgery & hospitalization.

sometimes one unit of humalog will drop me over 100 points, sometimes it spits in my face.
May 23, 2026 at 6:18 PM
ah, the good old days, when people who really ought to know things about pharmacology tried to tell me that I should be injecting my toddler with Walmart insulin because it was cheaper. (This was me, answering a friend who asked me to explain why that wasn't the right call...)

Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks held Humalog at $274 a vial — 1,157% markup — for six years. Americans rationed insulin and died. Shane Boyle was $50 short of his GoFundMe when he died. 416+ lawsuits. $36.7M pay in 2025. Zero charges.

Observe that some insulin mfgs (notably Eli Lilly) technically sells more of its "unbranded" version of Humalog than its branded version in the U.S., hence the unbranded product remains available for sale. Each circumstance is unique.
