Lia W on Instagram: "WEEK 3: #ShowMeLove - @hundredwaters ____________________________ I recorded this in a bathroom because I swear it's the only quiet place in this entire dorm. So yeah, I'm at #campaca16 in Dayton, Ohio this weekend, but that didn't stop me from finishing this week's arrangement. This was actually requested by @roguepotatoe from camp, and wow, it's a beautiful song. This is only the first half, and unfortunately the video got too long for be to post the 2nd, more interesting half. Oh well. I was inspired by GQ and XIV Hours' arrangement of Timshel for this song. Sorry, this is gonna get really long. I've been thinking a lot as I struggle to get used to my new computer and new notation software about something Deke Sharon said at Sing Texas: "An arrangement only exists when it is sung. Notes on paper on their own don't mean anything." In my head, the inflections and the intensity of this arrangement are so much stronger than the way the computer plays it back. This bothered me for a long time, until I realized that what the computer thinks it's supposed to sound like doesn't matter, because it's just a bad adaptation of notation. Still, I wish you could hear what it sounds like my head, because it is nothing like in this video. It has also made me think about the fact that I've arranged over twenty songs at this point, and yet I've only been able to actually sing four of them. And since, as I've learned, the playback of the computer tells you nothing, actually singing arrangements is the only way to find out what worked and what didn't. And now I just wish there was a way to actually get a group together and sing some of them just as experiments. I guess out of anywhere in the world, I'm in the right place right now somehow make that happen. _________________ #acappella #arranging #finalemusic #composing"
