Stratospheric #aerosols from the January 15 #HungaTongaHungaHaapai #volcanic #eruption are still clearly visible at ~20-30 km altitude in data from @NASA's #CALIPSO #lidar. As of Feb 8, the aerosol layers extend from ~35ºS to ~15ºN; the example below is over East Africa on Feb 6.

Increased SO₂ emissions from #HungaTongaHungaHaapai began on Dec 20, 2021, & were already unprecedented for this #volcano. @JPSS SNPP/OMPS data show a period of strong degassing (12/20/21-1/2/22), a pause (and/or cloud cover from Cyclone Cody), & then the Jan 13-15 #eruptions.
