So Hyperlexia is a thing, where reading comes easily to a child, sometimes to the point of disrupting their other communication methods. It also overlaps a lot with autism.

There’s nothing worse with hyperlexia than artificial pauses in narrative 😅
If your game has cutscenes with text only, no VO, you need to allow fast readers to click to proceed faster. Otherwise you it’ll feel frustrating and people (er me) will start looking at their phones instead of reading your carefully crafted text.

I think one of the reasons I didn't get recognised early is because my precocious Autistic specialization as a small child was words (hyperlexia) not maths.
The stereotype says Autistics aren't supposed to be good at words.
Also, reading ability is more femme coded.

My hyperlexia is how I peeped from a VERY young age how many adults were truly dumb as fuck. But that they also just wanted to lord power over children, even if the child was correct.

I have been told by doctors that I can't be autistic because I "communicate too well" & I "relate to people too well," and it's like these dense assholes don't realize that hyperlexia is an indication of autism and that women (particularly women w/ C-PTSD) have their autism manifest as hyperempathy.
The similarities between how medical professionals treat autistic woman and how they treat trans women are remarkable. A lot of which seems to stem from being attached to certain narratives about what we "should" be like and refusing to trust our testimony.
