Exactement! Ils ne prennent pas de chance. Plusieurs constructeurs ont ces problèmes de ICCU, pas que les Coréens.

There’s an “known issue” with a part called the ICCU if you look it up. They extended the warranty for the part for 180,000 miles but you’d still have to take it in for service if it happens. No one knows for sure how it breaks but I said any car could break down with no notice

They are seemingly great EVs and generally very reliable except that all Hyundai and Kia EVs (which are the same cars - personally prefer the Kia EV6 wind) have a non zero probability of just stopping working out of the blue.

I'm actually /extremely/ aware given that's the likely cause of the ICCU issue my daily driver went through, but "aren't expected to wear out in the lifespan of a car" is the norm we're used to and if people want to quibble with concatenating that to "don't wear out" - it boosts engagement!

You are mostly eliminating things that can break and replacing them with one big battery and some highly reliable electric motors.
You are also replacing an alternator with an ICCU.
So far the only issue I have had that wasn't caused by nails and garage doors was a dead 12V battery.

I like my VW id4 but I'd probably recommend the ioniq 5 over it. The ICCU issue is still unfixed, so road trips are a hard "never ever" in any Kia/Hyundai EV, but otherwise they're great.

We had a ‘24 Ioniq 5 RWD, moved to CO, turned the ‘24 in for ‘26 with AWD. Love the car. Also have a ‘26 Ioniq 9. Great for road trips/family stuff. Only used the third row once so far but fit adults comfortably. No ICCU issues with any of the cars so far 🤞🏼. Definitely recommend a more recent I5.

Nearly all EVs have issues with their 12v batteries it seems, so that's not really unique to the Hyundai group. ICCU on the other hand, it's a known issue. However, now that the parts are readily available it's a lot less painful.

Still not sure whether or not to read into Hyundai's unwillingness to fix the ICCU problem that seems to be the literal only flaw on this cars. No mass market company outside of China competes with Tesla on EVs like Hyundai does.

My colleague owns one of these, and it's in the dealership with some regularity because of the ICCU issue.
He says it's still more reliable than his Telsa was (door handles never worked, firmware burned out, wheel fell off)

You are spot on. I wouldn’t by a Hyundai gas car. Because mechanics hate them. There are just so few moving parts in an EV. Our Kia EV has had zero issues in the three years we have had it. They did have problems with their ICCU in some models in 2023, but even all new Honda models have recalls.

You are spot on. I wouldn’t by a Hyundai gas car. Because mechanics hate them. There are just so few moving parts in an EV. Our Kia EV has had zero issues in the three years we have had it. They did have problems with their ICCU in some models in 2023, but even all new Honda models have recalls.
