#IIJA
It is genuinely remarkable that Democrats managed to pass most of their major legislative goals in 2021-2022 (IIJA, IRA, CHIPS, ARP, formally legalizing same-sex marriage, electoral count act) while the GOP couldn't legislate its way out of a paper bag and experienced *multiple* government shutdowns

The IIJA funding means that 91 projects in 37 states will be one step closer to reality - meaning better safety for drivers and train crews (and passengers) alike.

Sure, and I am a direct beneficiary of the IIJA and the IRA and I appreciate them but Biden let The Bastards Get Away With It, and that's pretty unforgivable.

Revive the portions of IIJA that Trump rolled back.

Stop the war on higher ed and start to fix how it gets financed.

Start the rebuild of the scientific community.

Roll back the Medicare cuts.

I think you can push Dems in a certain direction and still acknowledge when good is being done. I agree the latter has become more muted lately. IIJA and IRA were incredibly pieces of legislation by the Biden Administration, but they never got the recognition they deserved.
Here’s the problem: There is SO much criticism of Democrats on the internet, there is no such thing as something small.

It is 24/7. It is non-stop. It is being done in good faith, bad faith, by republicans, by leftists, by democrats, by state actors, by journalists.

The scale is unfathomable.

Oh very much so! The IRA was an excellent start (as were CHIPS and the IIJA).

It's just worth noting *ahead of time* that stripping off trade barriers won't be *sufficient* to electrify the US auto market, even if it is probably *necessary*.

Critical public transportation funding is in jeopardy.

As Congress considers whether to renew Federal funding established under the IIJA, a new report from @cantwell.senate.gov outlines what’s at stake for communities across the U.S. – and why Congress must restore public transportation investment.

Five years after the IIJA gave DOE $57.5B; only 6% has been paid out. In 2026, Congress redirected $5.2B, while the administration wants $15.2B more rescinded.

Can DOE turn its funding into projects before it’s repurposed? The Energy Project Innovation investigates:

Like specifically all the IIJA stuff? For my main analysis, I don't include IIJA, IRA, BBB, or BSCA because they're one-time things. But I have a graph like the one above that toggles what it looks like if you include them.

And then for IIJA, I comprehensively went through and coded each line

IIJA is interesting since there isn’t consensus on what portion was just the usual transportation reauthorization and what portion was a one-off.

These projects were all in the last rail plan, too, from 2014. Despite the unprecendented rail funding in the IIJA, ODOT only managed to apply for funding for the Eugene project. ODOT is actually slow-walking the work "needed" to increase passenger rail trips in the Willamette Valley
