And also that bizarre paradox that the biologic drugs used to treat autoimmune diseases like TNFa blockers, IL1b, IL17, IL23 blockers.... have also all been correlated to some extent with new onset autoimmune disease. Is this through increased infections?

I think the tl:dr (using my dusty old biomedical science degree to dig a bit) is they found more specific targets for therapy and this is the waves of monoclonal antibody therapies targeting those targets (namely IL17 and IL23) coming to market

Subsequently, we found that anti-IL-12p35 did not help, could even make things work. In 2003, IL23 was discovered, consisting of IL23p19 and IL12p40. This has an important role in chronic immune disorders. Here the antibody against IL23p23 is trialed against Crohn´s disease.
