Babesia aktasi is a recently discovered species that is highly prevalent in native goats in Türkiye’s Mediterranean region. Although it does not induce clinical disease in local breeds, it causes severe illness in Saanen goats, manifesting with high fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and jaundice. Imidocarb dipropionate (IMDP) has been reported to be therapeutically effective against Babesia species. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of IMDP and its ability to eliminate the parasite in experimentally infected Saanen goats. Twelve goats were assigned to treatment and control groups (n = 5 per group) and infected using fresh blood from two splenectomized donors. All goats developed clinical babesiosis, with parasitemia ranging from 3.8% to 22. Semi-nested PCR specific to B. aktasi was performed for 30 days post-treatment. Following treatment with IMDP (1.2 mg/kg), clinical signs resolved by the third and fourth days, and parasitemia became microscopically undetectable. However, one goat in the treatment group and four goats in the control group died shortly after infection. Hematological parameters (HCT, RBC, HB) decreased during infection but normalized in surviving animals. Notably, B. aktasi DNA remained detectable by PCR up to 30 days after treatment. These findings indicated that IMDP resolved clinical signs and eliminated microscopically detectable parasitemia; however, it may not completely eliminate the parasite at the molecular level in B. aktasi infections. The results of this study provide valuable information for optimizing therapeutic approaches and improving our understanding of treatment responses in new species B. aktasi.

En el marco del Día del Niño, el Instituto Municipal del Deporte de Puebla (IMDP), bajo la dirección de Ricardo Zayas Gallardo y con el respaldo del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Puebla liderado por Pepe Chedraui Budib, organizó una exitosa activación física con la participación de más de mil niñas, niños y jóvenes, acompañados de sus familias. El evento, realizado en la explanada del Paseo Bravo, ofreció diversas rutinas de activación física adaptadas a diferentes rangos de edad, con música y la presencia de instructoras disfrazadas de personajes infantiles.

El IMDP anuncia el Torneo de Barrios de Box 2025 Con estas acciones refrenda su compromiso continuo con el deporte Puebla, Pue.- El Gobierno de la Ciudad anunció la realización del Torneo de Barrios de Box 2025, que dará inicio el sábado 26 de abril de 2025. Esta convocatoria está dirigida a las personas de los distintos gimnasios de box del estado de Puebla y otras entidades, en línea con la visión del alcalde Pepe Chedraui de acercar el deporte a las y los jóvenes de la capital.

El IMDP destacó la inclusión de cuatro mujeres en la contienda Puebla, Pue. – Con gran entusiasmo y participación, el Instituto Municipal del Deporte de Puebla (IMDP), bajo la dirección de Ricardo Zayas Gallardo y alineado con la visión del alcalde Pepe Chedraui, celebró el Primer Torneo Batalla de Porteros. Babesia ovis is a significant tick-borne parasite of sheep, capable of causing both acute disease and long-lasting, low-grade infections. Imidocarb dipropionate (IMDP) is commonly used against babesiosis, yet whether it can completely eliminate B. ovis remains uncertain. In this study, we examined whether the parasite persists after treatment and whether such residual infections can still be transmitted. Three sheep were experimentally infected, treated with IMDP once clinical signs appeared, and then monitored for 180 days by microscopy, nested PCR, and iELISA. Fever and microscopic parasitemia resolved soon after treatment, but nPCR intermittently detected parasite DNA for several weeks. By day 180, all treated sheep were negative by nPCR and microscopy, while two still showed detectable antibodies. Blood collected at this time was transfused into naïve sheep. Two of the three recipients showed nPCR positivity at scattered time points and later seroconverted while showing no clinical signs. In contrast, Rhipicephalus bursa ticks that fed on the treated donors neither acquired the parasite nor transmitted it to recipients, likely because post-treatment parasitemia remained below the acquisition threshold. Overall, these results indicate that IMDP controls clinical disease but may not fully clear B. ovis, allowing silent transmission through blood despite negative routine tests.
