NEWS: We’re delighted to announce that Inmos Microprocessing Factory in Newport (Richard Rogers & Partners, 1982), one of the most innovative industrial buildings of the late 20th century, has been Grade II* listed following an application by C20 and C20 Cymru.

And again with the UK Alvey Programme and the millions dumped into Inmos's incomprehensible Transputer PPUs.

HTML's quaint default palette is the only faint memory of Inmos that remains. IBM used an Inmos colour chip in the first VGA card, and its palette stuck with us.

Two postdoc positions in my group are opening: First is part of SOCCOM3 (3 years, NSF funded, S. Ocean carbon/oxygen/nutrient budgets), Second is part of InMOS (4.25 yrs, Schmidt Sciences / OBVI funded, long-term oxygen/carbon flux and inventory constraints). Anyway, here's that video card. This is the so called "INMOS G364" Framebuffer. It's 1280x1024 24-bit, unaccelerated graphics.

This is pretty funny to, like, maybe three people on Earth.

This is so nice…

It reminded me of a poster from the ‘80s that I should have kept ☹️

It was advertising an event to do with the the #INMOS #Transputer (www.rs-online.com/designspark/...) and featured a beautiful knitted version of a Transputer in situ. I do so wish that I had kept a copy!

Well, they do call semiconductor fabrication plants ‘foundries’.

Decades ago I worked for a small company who made the ancestors of today's GPUs. One of their products (with 40 Inmos T800 transputers on board!) ran the video subsystem for a supertanker simulator.

They had a testbed. It was great fun to fly a very large crude carrier over a headland at 3000 feet!

I had panic meltdown today so i simply fixed this Tektronix logic analyzer and then used it to diagnose and repair my MCA transputer card instead of doing actual work

I could buy an Inmos B004 board in eBay, or I could collect enough information to make a PC/XT ISA board and test my two TRAM modules 🤓 #retro #transputer

At last! A book dedicated to the bristling silhouettes of Britain's High-Tech architecture - possibly our greatest export. Congratulations to @geraintfranklin.bsky.social

With all-original photography by John East. Especially love East Croydon looking heroic in bright sunshine.

No wires are needed! All my software is working. I also tested with the Mandelbrot program from Geekdot to make sure my board is compatible with the Inmos B004 board 😀✌️ #retro #transputer

Newyddion gwych! / Great news! Newport’s former Inmos Microprocessor Factory, by Richard Rogers & Partners with Anthony Hunt, has now been listed as Grade II*. Built 1980–82, it’s Wales’ High-Tech landmark, with structure and services on show and a flexible interior built for innovation.

I got a pair of transputer boards in an eBay offer. The 30mhz version of the Inmos T805 is pretty rare and these boards have 2 MB of RAM. I could have done marvels with so much memory. #retro #transputer

I have posters of the masks of a T414 and T800 transputers above the fireplace in my office. The same posters I had on my office wall at Oxford, as a young researcher, before I actually joined inmos in Bristol.

"Occam", the programming language, developed by David May and others at Inmos (trademark INMOS), advised by Tony Hoare, as the native programming language for their transputer microprocessors. I used both language and chips for my MSc dissertation.

Here was my effort for Inmos in the UK in 1990. Used a Nextel paint as well. It was a 'thing' then.
Copied myself with a Kinshaw MonoBloc Amplifier in 1993. They still crop up on ebay occasionally for silly money - but well worth the money for the sound.
