Well, and now there's a bill that would open up parts of Baltimore to data center development, under certain conditions. Sigh. baltimore.legistar.com/LegislationD.... At least there is a hearing later this month!

Remember when you were nine, and dreaming about the things you might do in your life?

There are things you were always going to be doing, or at least trying to do, with your creative career. Your nine-year-old self can tell you what those are.

San Onofre pressurizer is 1500ft³, but 190gal seems like a lot.

The PZR leaked RCS liquid from the manway cover during transport. The licensee determined that the PZR contained ~190 gal of RCS liquid with low levels of radioactive Cobalt-60 and Cesium-137. www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2421/...

SPC Mar 5, 2026 1930 UTC Day 3 Severe Thunderstorm Outlook
SPC 1930Z Day 3 Outlook Day 3 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0128 PM CST Thu Mar 05 2026 Valid 071200Z - 081200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM TX TO LOWER MS VALLEY AND THE UPPER OH VALLEY TO LOWER GREAT LAKES... ...SUMMARY... Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible from Saturday morning into the evening across a broad swath of the southern Great Plains to the Lower Great Lakes. Isolated very large hail may occur in parts of Texas. ...Synopsis... An upper trough consisting of multiple embedded shortwave impulses will move east from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes. A closed low over the Lower CO Valley will further retrograde to west of Baja CA. A surface cyclone over eastern Upper MI at 12Z Saturday will deepen as it rapidly progresses into QC. A full-latitude cold front will arc southwestward, crossing the eastern Great Lakes and Midwest on Saturday. The trailing portion will slow its southern movement over TX and likely be modulated by convective outflows. ...TX to the Lower MS Valley... Primary changes are to add a CIG1 area for very large hail potential in TX, and shift/expand the cat 2-SLGT risk north-northeast per latest guidance. While TX will largely remain within a flat to low-amplitude mid-level ridge between the aforementioned troughs/lows well to its north and west, seasonably rich low-level moisture atop an undercutting cold front should support regenerative convection through much of the period. With the west-southwesterly mid-level flow regime, steep mid-level lapse rates will be maintained over the pre-convective warm sector. Low-level flow will become increasingly weak and diffluent, yielding a favorable deep-layer wind profile for hail growth. Primary uncertainty is the degree of surface-based development towards late afternoon/early evening along the composite front/outflow. Current indications are that CIG2-type giant hail potential might evolve with more discrete/isolated convection in the south-central TX vicinity. For now, will incrementally add a CIG1 and defer to later outlooks for a possible categorical upgrade. Farther east-northeast across the Lower MS Valley, clusters may be consolidating into line segments by mid-late morning Saturday. These may yield an increase in mainly damaging wind and brief tornado potential as the warm/moist sector destabilizes downstream. An extensive swath of widespread convection is anticipated during the afternoon. But this should become increasingly aligned with the deep-layer shear vector. In conjunction with decreasing low-level hodograph curvature, setup may only favor sporadic damaging winds before storm intensities wane after sunset. ...OH Valley to the Lower Great Lakes... No adjustment has been made to the level 2-SLGT risk area. At least scattered convection should be ongoing upstream over parts of the Midwest and Mid-South along/ahead of the aforementioned cold front. This activity may not entirely decay, with renewed storm development possible along the large-scale outflow that will probably remain displaced appreciably east of the front. Where adequate insolation can occur amid steep mid-level lapse rates, an uptick in storm intensity should occur midday into the afternoon. Overall amplitudes still seem to favor non-significant severe, but a scattering of damaging winds, a couple tornadoes, and isolated marginally severe hail all appear plausible. These threats should wane after sunset and with eastern extent towards the Appalachians. ..Grams.. 03/05/2026 Read more

SPC Nov 21, 2025 1930 UTC Day 3 Severe Thunderstorm Outlook
SPC 1930Z Day 3 Outlook Day 3 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0128 PM CST Fri Nov 21 2025 Valid 231200Z - 241200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN INTO CENTRAL TEXAS... ...SUMMARY... Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across portions of northern Texas to the Rio Grande on Sunday. Large hail is the primary threat. ...Synopsis... A progressive upper pattern will prevail over the CONUS on Day 3/Sunday as multiple mid-level troughs progress across the Northeast, the Plains states, and the Pacific Northwest, respectively. At the surface, high pressure and static stability will become established east of the MS River to the East Coast, and over much of the Interior West, limiting thunderstorm potential over these regions. However, the amplification of the central U.S. mid-level trough will encourage surface lee troughing and subsequent southerly moisture return across portions of the central and southern Plains, where isolated to scattered thunderstorms are likely. Strong flow aloft over TX will overspread a moist axis, where adequate coinciding buoyancy and vertical wind shear will support an isolated severe threat. Otherwise, a few lightning flashes are possible along the Pacific Northwest coastline with the passage of a mid-level trough and accompanying cooler temperatures aloft. ...Portions of southwestern into central TX... As the mid-level trough overspreads TX through the period, a southerly low-level jet will develop, particularly after 00Z, when 850 mb southerly flow will exceed 35 kts. A relatively stable boundary layer will remain in place Sunday through Sunday night. However, atop this layer, seasonably rich moisture around 850 mb, beneath 6.5-7.5 C/km mid-level lapse rates, will yield 1000-1500 J/kg of MUCAPE, which is adequate for supporting strong but elevated thunderstorms. From late afternoon into the overnight hours, increased isentropic lift above the stable boundary layer, driven by the approaching mid-level trough, will promote an increase in thunderstorms through the evening over western and central TX. The southerly 35 kt low-level jet, overspread by 50-70 kt mid-level southwesterlies from the upper trough, will yield elongated hodographs and up to 50 kts of effective bulk shear. This shear, and aforementioned MUCAPE, will support the potential for elevated supercells late Sunday afternoon and overnight, with severe hail possible. ..Squitieri.. 11/21/2025 Read more

SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0128 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025 Valid 261200Z - 271200Z ...Synopsis... Fire weather concerns are expected to remain limited to portions of the northern Sacramento Valley, and perhaps portions of eastern Montana, this afternoon. Early-morning water-vapor imagery reveals an upper trough over southwest Canada/the Pacific Northwest that is forecast to shift east along the International border over the next 24 hours. As this occurs, building high pressure over the Pacific Northwest and a strengthening low over the Canadian Prairies will induce windy conditions across northern CA and eastern MT and the western Dakotas. ...Northern Sacramento Valley... Surface observations show building surface high pressure over portions of the Pacific Northwest amid the passage of the upper-trough. This trend will continue through the day and will induce northerly pressure gradient winds across northern CA. Latest ensemble guidance and forecast pressure-gradient values suggest sustained winds in the low to mid-teens are likely with gusts upwards of 20-25 mph - especially through the northern Sacramento Valley where terrain influences will be most pronounced. With RH minimums in the teens to 20s expected and modestly dry fuels in place (ERCs between the 70-80th percentiles), localized elevated fire weather conditions are probable. ...Northern to Central High Plains... A deepening surface low is noted in 06z observations across the southern Canadian Prairies. This low, along with a trailing cold front, will progress east across eastern MT and the Dakotas through the day. Southerly winds will shift to the west/northwest across the northern High Plains by early afternoon, and by early evening across the central Dakotas. Post-frontal winds will likely reach 15-25 mph with gusts upwards of 30-40 mph possible, especially from southeast MT into adjacent portions of WY/SD, and possibly as far south as western NE. An influx of cooler air will likely modulate RH reductions behind the front with most guidance hinting that RH minimums will reach 25-35%. Based on latest fuel guidance, there should be sufficient displacement of the drier fuels across northern MT and windiest/driest conditions further southeast to preclude risk highlights, but localized, wind-driven fire weather concerns may materialize across parts of the northern/central High Plains through the afternoon. ..Moore.. 09/26/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0128 AM CDT Tue Aug 12 2025 Valid 121200Z - 131200Z ...Synopsis... Fire weather concerns will be focused across parts of central and eastern Arizona this afternoon, though more local concerns may emerge across portions of Oregon. ...Central to eastern Arizona... A mixture of wet and dry thunderstorms is expected again this afternoon along the Mogollon Rim. An evening 00z sounding from ABQ sampled a very deep, dry boundary layer along with steep mid-level lapse rates and PWAT values near 0.5 inch. This dry, but weakly buoyant, thermodynamic environment on the northern fringe of the deeper monsoonal moisture yielded a mix of wet and dry thunderstorms across the region yesterday. Similar conditions are likely today and should pose a fire weather concern over areas with receptive fuels. Dry thunderstorms are possible further east into western NM, but recent rainfall and improved fuels should mitigate the fire risk. ...Oregon... A weak mid-level wave is noted in early-morning water-vapor imagery off the Pacific Northwest coast. This feature will migrate east through the day and overspread the Cascades through peak heating. The associated westerly mid-level flow will not be overly strong, but will still induce a downslope flow regime on the eastern slopes of the Cascades. Compressional heating/drying, coupled with peak heating and full insolation, will promote RH reductions between 10-20%. Sustained winds between 10-15 mph appear most probable based on latest ensemble consensus, but gusts between 20-25 mph (especially wind-prone locations within the terrain) are possible. ..Moore.. 08/12/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product...
