I notice how SIffrin always changes his answer for what he'll do after beating the King to their friends.

To Mirabelle, it's going on a pilgrimage of his own.

To Isabeau, it's starting a comedy club. (1/2).

It is officially time (and a great excuse) for yours truly to replay In Stars and Time for the first time in over a year since I last completed it! Stars, I missed this game, and will share my thoughts in quote posts as I go!

Ah, Dormont... I missed this place quite a lot. It perfectly fits the vibe of a small but lively-ish town that's very close to an overthrown House that's frozen in time.

The architecture, the people, the music for both indoors and outdoors... What's not to like?

Not this stupid bastard again.

That's all I have to say. It's a pain in the ass in particular on Act 2.

I don't think about it as often anymore, but the concept that you're put in a position where you're at the end of the "game" and not even technically its "main" character was very fascinating for me to think about.

It was a nice little subversion, even if it wasn't a big focus.

Perhaps this isn't the kindest or most polite thing to say, but it's fun to see them mess around a little with this light teasing. :)

The House...

For as horrible as the King may have twisted it from its former self, it remains beautiful and grand in the face of Dormont and greater Vaugarde.

BONNIEEEE!!!

I remember assuming that they'd be mostly annoying-ish with a handful of funny lines, but they grew to be my third favorite character on my first playthrough.

My friend @gaberahamlincoln.bsky.social and I made a zine last year to gush about In Stars and Time and also recommend it to people! I made the art and we collaborated on the writing~

It's up on my ko-fi if you would like to print and fold your own copy!

The back cover and cover of the In Stars and Time zine. It's a connecting image of Loop sitting under the favor tree while beyond them Bonnie, Odile, Siffrin, Isabeau, and Mirabelle stand on a hill looking off into the background at the House. The text on the cover reads: "Why You Should Play In Stars and Time by Grace & Gabe." The back cover reads: "If you want to play the game you can play it on: steam, nintendo switch, ps4/ps5 and on itsch.io here: armor-games-studios.itch.io/in-stars-and-time and the creator's itch.io here: insertdisc5.itch.io" page 2: Gabe's Loopsona summarizes in Stars and Time while also talking about other games we enjoy that it reminds us of while my Siffrinsona nods along. Gabe's speech bubble reads: "In Stars and Time is a time loop rpg that takes place in the last two days of a fantasy adventure. The game focuses on the personal journey of Siffrin as they protect their found family from the dangers of the final castle. But who will protect Siffrin from the psycological toll that takes? In Stars and Time has..." In a box with a drawing of Steven Universe: "The heartfelt queerness of Steven Universe, but with more bith and maturity." In a box with a drawing of Majora's Mask: "a melancholic time loop adventure like Majora's Mask, but really in the head of the time traveller." In a box with a drawing of Asriel from Undertale: "Undertale's sense of meta fun with underlying darkness, but with a more personal story." In a box with a drawing of Mae Borowski: "Night in the Wood's realness and companionship in the face of disaster, in a more fantastical world." page 3: a drawing of Siffrin, looking morose and lying down in a grassy field. A text box points to him that reads: "Siffrin he/they • jokes up front, depression in the back • thinks he has it all under control • does not have it all under control pages 4 and 5, a spread image featuring Isabeau, Mirabelle, Bonnie and Odile sitting all together in a field. Siffrin is also sitting some distance behind them, facing away from them. Isabeau and Mirabelle are chatting together. Bonnie and Odile are both holding onigiri with dialog reading: Bonnie: On-gi-ni-ri Odile: Close, "Onigiri" Text boxes point to all the characters except Siffrin, reading as following: "Isabeau he/him • a true self-made himbo • weak for puns, weak for Siffrin • waiting for the right time to say it" "Mirabelle she/her • the actual hero of the adventure • doesn't feel she deserves to be • doing everything but figuring herself out" "Bonnie they/them • rambunctious lil sprout + sweet lil bean • too young to fight, but eager to help • official Snack Captain of the team" "Odile she/her • serious, studious, well-seasoned with dry wit • what is she researching? she'll never tell • someone has to chaperone the young ones" pages 6 and 7, a spread image of Gabe's Loopsona and my Siffrinsona sitting under the Favor Tree and chatting. Gabe: The characters are in credibly charming. They feel like real people! Grace: Like people I know! Gabe: But they are also layered and messy. They have a lot to work through, both together and independently Grace: Case in point, Siffrin! The way you play as Siffrin and experience his spiraling mental health was like having a mirror held up to me Gabe: Yeah! There's a lot of queer indie games about depression but this one especially hits hard Grace: And relating to Siffrin's struggles inspires me to want to change for the better, which is difficult and messy and sometimes slow to the point it feels like stagnation Gabe: Until it isn't! Change is an underscoring theme of the game as is the queerness at the game world's core. Its culture and magic center on fluidity in a way I felt resonated with my bi and genderqueer self Grace: As a lesbian, this games's world resonated with me... with how hot Odile is... Gabe: Yeah...Odile hot Gabe: the game is good Grace: The game is good

IT'S THE QUEEN MEEBLE, MIRABELLE HERSELF!

When I first played, I thought she'd be a favorite character of mine, but I kinda lost that level of interest later on. But this time, I'm very willing to connect with her more with context and a fresh perspective.

I fucking died to a Sadness are you kidding me how

I wasn't even trying to, either.

Uh, I guess I can talk about how interesting this death is in that Siffrin, while everyone else is knocked down and wounded, sacrifices himself to take the Sadness down with him.
