Day 2 of this journey, let's call it #IberiaNoFly - always fascinating to board a train that does more than 1100 km (Aix-en-Provence - Madrid), hopefully on-time for the connection to Vigo this evening.

It's a bit tricky to catch the flamingos on both sides of the train during #IberiaNoFly but I promise they were there and I enjoy their presence (here close to Leucate) every time.

... as we are approaching Perpignan, perfectly on time, I recall that this train perfectly connects many cities in the South of France, but #SNCF will not let you know, let alone sell any tickets for it - since it belongs to their equally tax-payer related competitor #RENFE.

Starting day 3 of #IberiaNoFly with a true #CrossBorderRail from Vigo's international station Guixar, which looks more like a shoe-box.

After 1.5 days of meetings at Lisbon university, I start my return trip, on a different route. Despite strikes on CP, this piece of museum equipment seems ready to take me from Lisbon Oriente to Faro.

Parts of gigantic Madrid Chamartin are shiny, but overall it's difficult to navigate if you are unfamiliar. One hour was barely enough to get there by metro 1, pass security and find the platform for my #IberiaNoFly to Vigo.

Why the bus and Sevilla on #IberiaNoFly? Because RENFE would not tell its clients about the trains between Badajoz and Madrid this month. But the advantage here is that there is direct high speed service to Barcelona, with no need to change in Madrid, and connecting service even to Paris.

Second and final leg of today's #IberiaNoFly Porto - Lisbon (not so high speed after all, 3 hours for 335 km, but that's fast enough for my needs)

The ride from Madrid to Vigo for this #IberiaNoFly trip was also long (648 km) and also quite bumpy most of the time, and at this time of the year, nothing left to see much of the trip. But I got there on time.

I leave the complexities of getting home by various buses and a long wait in the cold in Crest aside and offer instead some concluding observations from #IberiaNoFly
