If you think the narcissistic injured egos are going to produce a sustained reconciliation it isn’t happening. There will be temporary idealization or hoovering (idealization to suck one back into the relationship) for strategic positioning for eventual discard and annihilation.

I think the national nostalgia and idealization around college campuses really undercuts this assumption, too imo.

I can't tell you how much I hate this glib sentiment. The only way to determine someone's true, enduring preference is to give them full familiarity with their options. Americans have no familiarity with their options! They've only seen sprawl!

I think the national nostalgia and idealization around college campuses really undercuts this assumption, too imo.
It was truly something to be a teenager & early adult between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the World Trade Center. That’s not just a nostalgic idealization of youth; we were in a moment that’s impossible to explain now.
I just want to be in middle school and play the Sega dreamcast for the first time again, instead of wondering if I'm going to be forced to live under authoritarianism.

I was doing these studies of very 90s anime pushup bra lady idealization. I can't deny it's got appeal even if I do tend to find myself favoring drawing the effects of gravity more these days.
