In many ways, Facebook never stopped being Mark's personal fuckability index...
NEW: I recently reported how Meta ran hundreds of ads containing AI-generated child sexual abuse.

Links in those ads and other nudify ads, led us to a network of more than 400 apps disguising themselves as everyday AI

When opened they would transform into deepfake abuse apps
Hundreds of Mundane AI Apps Are Hiding Sexually Abusive Deepfake Features
WIRED uncovered some 400 apps and websites linked to Chinese-language developers that look like regular AI tools but had secret features that let users create violent AI-generated images and video.

i like Star Wars too but it’s probably best to not index your politics too heavily on quite stupid readings of children’s movies

I am relying on the same approach, and have throughout my career. Let's talk about H-index for a moment.

An H-index is an investigator's number (n) of papers, with (n) citations.

It is not useful for comparing authors at different career stages because it is correlated with seniority.
My lab’s response to the rise of LLMs over the past three or so years has not been to churn out larger numbers of papers. It has been to push that churn away and focus on artisanal production of a few science ideas and manuscripts (as we did before). I hope that turns out to be the right decision!

Anyone with a lower h-index than me is an inexperienced novice while anyone with a higher one is obviously abusing citation metrics. I don't make the rules.

In November 1992, Steven Foster and Fred Barrie developed a search engine called Veronica.

The search engine was used to browse and index information in Gopher menu items. The name Veronica is an acronym for “Very Easy Rodent-Oriented Net-wide Index to Computer Archives”.
